Upgrading my CPU

I want to upgrade my processor from an AMD Athlon II X2 250 to a quad core, which I'm nearly sure is an Intel Quad core. I just need to know if my PC will accept it, and exactly what I'll have to do, as I get lag spikes during gaming. My specs are; OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, RAM: 3.00 GB DDR2, Motherboard: Pegatron corp 2A6C,
1024MB NVIDIA GeForce GT 120, and two 465GB Seagate ST350041's, one is 8AS and the other 3AS. I just want better performance while I game, as games like CSS, TF2, and COD are all based on reaction time, and I can't react very well if I'm lagging every 15-20 seconds. I know it isn't my internet connection, I get latency of about 70-80 in most servers. Thanks for the help!

you cant upgrade your cpu to an intel quad, you need change and motherboard. You have a very old pc so this is the reason that you get so low performance in games.

Your Athlon is not the greatest of CPUs, but it will push a better video card...

Okay, so I have another tower that I can't use, much more up to date, but I don't have an operating system for it. I have the two hard drives, but I don't have an OS for the second one. Could I somehow put Windows 7 from my current PC onto the second hard drive and activate it using my current PC's code? or would I have to give up my primary hard drive that has the OS to put in the new tower?

If you really want good performance for games you should consider a new PC. There is not a whole lot you can do right now with your current setup... If you can find something like an Radeon HD 7770 or HD 7750 that would be fine for now if your Power Supply can handle it. I had an Athlon II 240 paired with a HD 6450 mostly for media but it could play most DX9 games at a low resolution. But if you plan on getting a new PC for games consider first A. CPU B. Graphics Card. C. Power Supply...

I kind of get what your asking....... Windows 7 and before is non transferable between PCs...This rule applies to OEM copies which is what most people get because it is cheaper. The OS is tied to the MB and in some cases the entire PC...if it is a refurb from a PC boutique....Windows 7 Retail Can be transferred to other Hardware. I don't know all the guidelines off the top of my head.... It is not a good idea to just Use your OS from a Drive on any hardware except of that which it was installed. So even if the hardware is very similar it is not optimal. It can power up and login to Windows but I don't recommend it. If your transferring all the hardware then your fine. But the drive with the OS is useless without the Original Hardware which it was installed most notably the MB
