Hi All,

I have been wanting to upgrade my Processor for a while now, I was just wondering what is the best processor I can get (£100-£175) for my specs below i.e that will fot my motherboard and case etc.

Specs:
Chillblast Fusion Warrior Gaming PC
AMD X4 860K 3.7Ghz Processor
16GB RAM
1TB HDD
NVIDIA GTX 1060
500W PSU
GA-F2A68HM-HD2 Motherboard
Windows 10 Home 64bit

Appreciate the help!

It's not worth upgrading the processor as you have nearly the fastest one for an fm2+ motherboard. The other option is to get an am3+ motherboard with a 6-core fx-6300 or 8-core fx-8300 processor. You can still use your ddr3 in it as it's the right speed.

Thanks for the replies, so if I buy an am3+ motherboard with a 8-core fx-8300 processor, What would be the equivalent of that processor in the Intel range?
(Im more in tune with Intel than AMD so this would help me understand how ‘powerful’ it is.)

Your cpu already is ~best, what you can put on that motherboard.
If you wish to keep your DDR3 ram, then best you can upgrade to is Intel i5 LGA1150 cpu (4430,4440,4460,4570) plus Intel B85 motherboard.

Am3+ is not worth getting at all. Between your 860k and an 8300 you will barely see any improvements.
An fx 8300 compares to something like a i5 2500.

Ryzen 1st gen has been out for over a year. You'll probably be able to get a really good deal on the 1st gen AM4 platform, especially since Ryzen 2 has just been released. Don't pay for decade old hardware, just to realize it doesn't perform how you want because you'll then have to purchase hardware a second time. As a result the totals would amount to more than a current Ryzen system.

Try to sell your current mobo and cpu and keep the ram. You can get a x5675 for like 50$ and it provides i7 6700k levels of performance, here is a video about it. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skV9exEDM3w) you can get an x58 board off eBay for like 100-150. Also try checking locally on apps like offer up and let go, and just search x58.
