Hello guys,

After 3.5 years i feel like i need to upgrade my pc. I came here in 2013 for advice and it really helped me out.

My goal is to play the witcher 3 and gta 5 on maxed out settings with no problem.

Budget is around 500-800€

Current specs:

Gtx 660

8 gb ram

Int Core i5-3570K clocked at 4.4

be quiet! Straight P. E9 CM 680W ATX23

Asus P8Z77-V PRO Z77 FRG SA

Win 7

I have been looking around for a while now but i just cant make up my mind what to get, even though i know what my goal is. All the choices and info can be quit overwhelming. So this is why i'm asking you guys to help me.

Im also planning on getting one of those fancy curved 144hz monitors, but that's for later.

Anyways, thanks to anyone helping me figure this out.

Solution
Yeah you need ddr3, if you have another slot available in your board, just drop in another 8gb dimm. If not, I would say yeah just purchase a new 16gb kit, as you are going to want that, 8gb is becoming a little on the low side.
It looks like your 3rd gen i5 will hold up well enough in those titles. I would invest in a nice video card like an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060

If you plan on getting a fancy 144hz curved HIGH RES monitor then you should spring for a 1070 or 1080 depending on the resolution and fps you're aiming for. Pretty sure the 1070 shouldn't have bottle-necking issues with your CPU yet but I'm not entirely sure.

To get the biggest improvement in games, you will want to upgrade your gpu, you cpu is old, but its still hanging on and should be able to be okay for a bit. If you are going for 1080p 144fps, then you are going to want to get something around a GTX 1070. This will eat up most of your budget, and I suggest keeping the rest for a later upgrade on your cpu.

Your cpu is fine, I have the i5-2500k and a 1070. running those games just dandy. So like the others have said, spring for a new gpu. I would say get the 1070/80 since you want a high refresh monitor later (I run mine at 100hz).

Thanks for the fast reply's guys.

Going for the gtx 1070, should i add some ram to that ?

Currently have Corsair 8 GB DDR3-1600, maybe replace it with Corsair 16 GB DDR4-2133 ?

psu and motherboard should hold up right ?

The fps i'm aiming for is around 80-100 for a 144hz monitor.

I'm still open for suggestions since i'm only going to get this stuff towards the beginning of november.

Thanks for the help guys, my mind is made up. Its going to be the gtx 1070 along with 16 gb of ddr 3 ram.

btw, most of you heard the news that Red Dead Redemption 2 is coming next year, i'm guessing by then i probably going to upgrade my cpu. If the game however is going to be released for pc... :/

No you won't, your i5 will do just fine. If it scales anything like GTA V, your i5's are even clocked higher than these i7's (note, they did turn off hyper-threading so it's a valid comparison) source: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/multi-core-cpu-scaling-directx-11,4768-3.html

I would mention possible dx12 optimizations but you're on win 7 so it's a non-point.

Ok well then i will not buy one next year, and wait until it really becomes necessary. My wallet will thank you later :)

Thanks for the article link btw, was really helpful.
