So I'm upgrading my current pc which is:

Phenom II x6 1100t
asus m5a78l-m lx plus
8gb ddr3 1600 g.skill ripjaws
500gb caviar blue
600w Cooler Master something something
MSI r9 270 twin frozr gaming edition
Hyper 212 evo
Some pretty case blue leds ect.

I am planning on switching to intel, and am planning on buying a i5 4960k. I was wondering what motherboard I should purchase, and also if there'e anything I'm forgetting about this, or anything I'm missing.

Thanks in advance

for mobo MSI Z97-GAMING 5, you might want to add a SSD, for PSU get a certified one

If your only into gaming, you could get a slightly cheaper i5 that will give you the same performance for less money, something around a 4460. getting a super beefy cpu isn't going to net you much more game performance as a slightly leaner one, like the 4460. With the 4460 or something similar, you'll still see a great improvement over the Phenom II, but more cost-effectively than the 4960k.

This mobo could definitely get the gob done, and with a good price, but I don't know if your case will support it- your old board is mATX, and your case could be mATX to- make sure your case can mount full ATX mobos, and if not, I could search for mATX 1150 mobos.

I currently have this case: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147153

I was also looking to overclock my cpu, as that is the reason I wanted to get the 4690k.

That's tough- the big difference is the expansion slots- they have different pci expansion slots. Also, the gigabyte has a vga and dvi-d port, while the asrock only has hdmi- this of course is not a problem, you will have your gpu ports which you want to use, but if you like having plenty of display options, then that could be a plus. In the end, its a matter of what kind of expansion slots you want, because other than that, they're basically identical. However, the do have a different price, the ASRock is $90 (with $10 rebate) while the Gigabyte is $130 (also with $10 rebate). In terms of brand quality, both will do fine, but Gigabyte is generally considered to be higher quality than ASRock.

When it comes down to it, it's a matter of whether you want different expansion slots, and whether you want to pay $50 more for the Gigabyte branding. The ASRock will do fine, though, and for a better price.

Additionally, the Gigabyte has 3 fan headers, while ASRock has 2, if that matters. Weird thing though: the ASRock apparently has 2 cpu headers, one 3 pin and one 4-pin- I guess you could use the extra one for a case fan or something?
