So im upgrading my current 8GB of ram to a dual channel 16GB kit, and I was just wondering if it's just plug and play. Will I have to do something after I install the new ram, or do I just continue using my computer? Just a check. Thank you!

Solution

If the speed of the RAM is above 1600Mhz you will have to go to the motherboard BIOS & change the RAM to XMP settings, if not it will most likely run on a slower speed like 1300Mhz or 1600Mhz.

Also most modern games only utilize 4 GB ~ 5 GB of RAM Maximum.

Thank you

as KKAW, said I was forced to specify the 1600MHz speed and the memory timings because it wanted to use 800MHz as a default when auto detect was enabled. After that I was all set and depending on the speed of the RAM you bought you may have to specify if you don't want auto detect to potentially set it much lower than spec...
