Hello
And the same question again i know, but i want some opinions on my 3 year old individual Rig.
I have atm
Intel Core i3 4160
8GB Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR3
Gigabyte GA-H97-HD3
XFX Radeon R9 280X

And i want to replace my old CPU. I use my PC mainly for Gaming Guild wars 2, Overwatch, Diablo 3
Should i invest in the Xeon or the i5 4460 should do just fine. Or another alternative is a lot better like investing in Skylake and Mobo (but i dont want to bother that much)

Also what are your opinions on used CPUs on Ebay?

based on your motherboard capabilities as per: http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Gigabyte/GA-H97-HD3(rev._1.0).html
and the ratings PassMark has for the I5-4460, 4690 and E3-1231v3 I would say the later s the better of the three by a lot and almost I7 quality of power

I have purchased from eBay cpus in the recent past, if the price is really cheap, use the "sold" selector to compare what is the average last 20 sales to base your bidding... I have gotten I5's for as low at 55$ the E3's are known commodities so don't expect them to be cheap, I have only bought from china dealers that had a very large (read high number of positive...
If you are planing to keep the mobo and RAM:
E3-1231V3 hands down if you are using dedicated GPU.
E3-1231V3 is like I7 4790 without the iGPU.
The real difference between those I5s and that Xeon is only on HT, the rest is more or less the same.
Some games run better on procs with HT.
E3-1231V3 was a hidden gem as I bought it several years ago.

If you wanna upgrade the proc, mobo and RAM, go all the way to coffeelake or ryzen. Ignore everything before them.
