I know people will tell me custom PCs are cheaper blah blah blah but I didn't and won't until I have a proper job and can afford to spend £££ on it 😀

I bought an X51 (was £700 reduced to £640 in sale and £560 with student dicsount), has the i5 4440, 8GB ram, 1tb harddrive, GTX645 and the 240W PSU.

I want to upgrade the Graphics card without modding my case (dont mind getting the 330W PSU), the one online ships with a 760Ti (but not paying £400 for it!) so was wondering if I could put one in myself? Is it worth waiting for the 800 series because I've heard theyll be more power effecient.

Thanks for any help!

Solution
Well first I do not think even a 330w PSU would be enough for that card.
Second it is actually a re-branded GTX 670. Not that the GTX 670 is a bad card it is quite good actually and does have more CUDA cores than the GTX 760,1344 up from 1152 on the GTX 760.

According to Nvidia you would need a 500w PSU so I do not think 330w would cut it.

Thanks for the info 😀 seems weird that theyd offer it as an upgrade (unless they do something else to make it work), if I installed and SSD would that save on power? I think maybe waiting for the 800 series is best

I wouldnn't feel comfortable with anything less than 500w, even though I would want to put 600w psu in it just in case. slightly overkill is better than not enough. SSD would save on power but not much. With PSU you really don't want to nickle and dime the wattage.

Having looked around I couldn't really get a legit PSU more than 330W i don't think, i may delve deeper although not in any rush to upgrade yet hence i don't mind waiting for the 800 series, guessing nickle and diming is penny and 5pencing? 😀

does anyone know of an easy way of upgrading the PSU above 330W without destroying the cooling (don't really need the CD drive so happy to take that out)?
