I currently have a single MSI GTX 970 4G. I was wondering; should I get another one just the same to increase performance in my games?

Solution

If it's a 60Hz monitor, then you are going to waste your money as anything above 60fps is a waste and can cause screen tearing where the monitor doesn't keep up with the speed of the video card. If you want more GPU power, you need a G-sync monitor that can match say 100fps with a 100Hz refresh rate for smooth, problem-free gameplay.

Also you are always better off waiting for the second wave of GPUs to come from the OEMs. Almost always the first release versions have some sort of bugs and problems corrected with updated GPUs by OEMs a few months later. The current releases will remain hard to find for a while. This is normal...

Everybody talks about selling the 970 but idk exactly where to sell it to and that stuff is kinda "sketchy"... and is there really that big of a performance? I am trying to decide between getting another GPU or getting a different CPU

What resolution monitor do you have? If you are running a 60Hz 1080p monitor everything should run above 60FPS. Are you running a G-sync monitor or something? If you are running a 1440p monitor, then you need more GPU power in the more frame rate heavy hitting games.

I have two 970s in SLI and run them for a 1440p monitor. Almost all games on ultra quality and at least 2xAA run between 75-120fps which is overkill for a 60Hz monitor. The only reason I got a second one was because games like Crysis 3, Witcher 3, and Project Cars dipped down into the 40s on a single 970.

I have a 24" 1080p monitor. I like the idea of upgrading to a 1070 but they are sold out everywhere.. :/

The main reason I want to SLI 2 of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127832 is
1. It looks badass and fits with my PC theme
2. I would get better performance in games and stuff.. say I wanted to run surround monitors?

Ah.. alright.. for some reason I currently have screen tearing and im not sure as to why..

Probably because you are not capping your FPS at 60 with Vsync in the games and are getting well above 60fps, which is screwing with the 60Hz refresh speed of the monitor as stated earlier. Try turning Vsync on in the games.

Its not even just the games, its sometimes even Youtube

Youtube runs at 30fps, so again, your video card is pumping more FPS than the screen (in this case YT videos) is able to keep up with. There are two things that can fix it. 1) Go into browser settings and turn off hardware acceleration, or 2) go into the Nvidia control panel under the browser application setting and select "Adaptive half refresh rate" (or something close to that in the description) in the Vsync option for that browser.

#1 may or may not work depending on your browser, but #2 should always work. A third fix possibility is to turn on Windows Aero and choose "best appearance" if you have Win7 and theme set up. I had to do that because the YT videos looked like crap and fuzzed out without Aero enabled.
