i am currently using a singl channel 16gb ddr4 ram at 3000mhz
but i want to upgrade to dual channel ram
should i buy 1 more 16gb and use it with my current one?
or get a 8x2 dual channel memory or 16x2?
my other specs are
i7 8700 non k
asus z370 f gaming board
msi gtx 1080ti
250gb ssd
2tb hdd
750 watt PSU
1080p monitor at 144hz
i use this only for gaming nothing else
i am also considering upgrading my cpu to i7 9700 or i9 9900

If you have one 16GB module, then you have options:
  1. add another 16GB module. May run into ram compatibility issues. For Intel this is rare (but still possible).
  2. get 2x8GB module kit. Probably will not have any issues with it.

Generally for gaming 16GB of ram is plenty. 32GB is not really needed, unless you also do something else, that requires a lot of ram
(like photo/video editing or running multiple VMs for example).

i just hav a single 16 gb ram stick in slot no. 2 on my board
so if i just buy the same ram that i am using now will it run ok?
or i should not take that risk and just get a 8x2 new kit
