Hey!

So, I've saved enough money to Pay for a CPU Upgrade from my Current build, i5 6600k

Current Build:

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/L69zHh

So, I would love to upgrade to one of the new I7's from the 8th Series, Like the i7 8700k.

I'd have to change mobo however.

But I dont know if this is a good choice?

Also, If I did this, I'd have to change Mobo, What is a Recommended Average Motherboard for this upgrade.

Essentially, What would you guys recommend to upgrade to?

Solution
Agree, I’d upgrade that psu before anything else. Assuming a gaming build upgrading to a 6700k/7700k would be more than enough for your gpu and even then only some cpu heavy games would benefit. The 1060 is great for 1080 60Hz, upgrading past a 7700k the gpu even at 1080p just isn’t strong enough to benefit.

If you still want a cpu and motherboard upgrade then I’d suggest waiting for 9th gen Intel which are releasing sometime in October.

Oh really? Hmm, I'd have to look into overclocking it correctly

But Guys!

I went out and got the following today;

i7 8700k Processor
Z370 AORUS GAMING K3 Motherboard
NZXT CA-S340MB-GR Source 340 Midi Tower Case - Black/Red

Woop!

Have fun on the build...the 8700K is a mighty CPU and will overclock with just a change to the multiplyer to 47 and instant 4.7GHz is yours...from there on you need to learn a bit more as voltages come in to effect so that you can get the best overclock at the lowest voltage...

4.7 is only the single core Turbo which in practice rarely ever comes into play, you're more likely to get 4.3GHz on all cores, or maybe 4.4 on 4 cores under regular TurboBoost conditions. You cold enable MCE to get 4.7GHz on all cores, but that tends to pump too much voltage into the chip and lead to crazy high temps.

I have my 8700k at 4.8GHz on all 6 cores with 1.280Vcore. Temps are in the high 50s during gaming (with air cooler). but they go up into the 80s during stress testing.
