Right so...

Basically, I'm moving from an FX6300 @ 4.1ghz to an i5 4670k, and what I really need right now is peace of mind.

Now, I remember back in Battlefield 3 days, before I got a 7950 (I had a 560ti 448), that Battlefield ran a lot better, constant 60, no problems. However, I thought that my massively OC'd 7950 beast would murder it, and it clearly hasn't, so I'm a little bit confused: there's juicy drops down to the 40s, and I ain't got time for that.

I figured though that it must be (over a long time) my cpu not keeping up with the gpu. So that's why I'm jumping ship to the intel side.

I did manage to get my cpu to a stable 4.5ghz for quite a few months as well, and that made NO difference. So maybe, just maybe, it may be because I have an amd gpu. I'm just mega confused as to what the problem is.

What I really want is some people to be honest. So many people bullshit on forums about framerates and hardware it's unbelievable. So, if anyone has my system, or the system I'm upgrading to, I wouldn't mind some peace of mind before I make the jump.

I know it's a great cpu (the i5), I just want to know if it's worth it, OR if the problem isn't my cpu (maybe go for a fx8350/different gpu). I know it'll make the biggest difference in the world on dayz, so yeah.

Finally, I don't want any of that 'cpu's dont make a differnce to gaming, battlefield 4 isnt gpu intensiveeeesae lolololl' BECAUSE AT 64 PLAYERS IM PRETTY SURE IT IS.

SO I hope that makes sense and people get what I'm on about. 250 quid is a lot of money and I want to make sure it's going into the right place.

Josh

My system:

CPU: fx6300
GPU: Club 3D 7950 (1100/1550)
RAM: G-skills 8gb 1600mhz
PSU: BeQuiet 630w
Mobo: Gigabyte ga-990fxa-ud3

I don't know what else to say other than im pretty surprised at your results but i agree that its probably best just to upgrade. Good luck.

probably will have to overclock the i5 some, as well as Windows 8.1. On the new china rising maps I dip under 30fps alot of times on 1080p ultra with my 7950. That's when it's most painful for me. On other maps, the fps dips surprise me, but, still playable. On the china rising maps it just gets pretty choppy and feels like I'm running in slow motion =/

Guess I could o.c. to 4.5, but, I've been wanting to watch my power bill

Sounds like it may just be a good idea to get a stronger CPU. Last shot, do you have good airflow across the motherboard vrm heatsinks?

Edit...for what its worth I've had a 60mm off the stock cooler on my vrm heatsink since I installed the hyper 212 for good measure.

Well I have three case fans, and my evo 212+.
I've tucked the cables under the mobo so there's good airflow and shouldn't be any problems. I think my cpu is just on its last legs by the looks of things really

I'm definitely considering getting windows 8.1 that's a given. Yeah, thanks for your help guys!

Right, long time no speak!

So, I'm all set up with my i5 4670k running at 4.2ghz and it is one hell of a mammoth. It has made a huge difference, can finally play Battlefield 4 at the highest settings without it breaking a sweat. Turned out I made the right decision and I'm running great!

All those people on the internet saying that an fx6300 shouldn't bottleneck.. what a bunch of liars.

it definitely made me rethink that as well, if my i5 was struggling in bf4 then the AMD must be even worse off....then again the horrible glitches by Dice due to EA rushing the game out probably doesn't help either >_>

Haven't been able to play since their mantle patch, many others on battlelog were talking about they were crashing as well...what a joke of a game launch.

Yeah I heard it was a bug fest when it first came out but I've had no problems what-so-ever. Constant 60fps on Ultra, 64-player maps. Seems like I didn't get too hurt by the bugs really. Only map I have to turn the graphics settings a bit down on is Siege of Shanghai after the building has collapsed: the smoke is killer. But yeah I'm enjoying it, and loving my new system.
