Hi everyone,

As the title suggests I am thinking of getting the RTX 4070 Super (specifically the MSI Ventus 2x) and Ryzen 7 7700x to upgrade my PC. However, I am not sure if they will work for my setup and if they are a good pair. So my current setup is:

Graphics Card: MSI Ventus RTX 2060
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X
Motherboard: MSI B450 Tomahawk
RAM: Corsair 16GB DDR4 3200 MHz (I don't know which one specifically)
SSD: Crutial CT 500MX 500 GB
HDD: WDC WD 1 TB
Power Supply: Seasonic Focus Gold 650W 80+ Gold

My main concern is will the RTX 4070 Super and Ryzen 7 7700x fit on my motherboard as it's older. Do I need some extra cables (I have my box with extra cables from the power supply but idk will they fit) to connect them? I saw that the connections for some newer cards have 12 pins or something. Also, can I use the fan that came with the Ryzen 5 2600X on the Ryzen 7 7700x, or do I need a new one? If I do need a new one which one would be best?

I will be using it for gaming on a 1440p monitor, so I think these two should get me over 120 fps with high or ultra settings, maybe a few tweaks. Furthermore, I believe the power supply should be good, but again not sure. I bought this PC in March 2019. I don't know if I forgot anything else, any and all insight and help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

Kind regards,

You're going to need a new motherboard and ram kit to pair with the 7700x. The latter processor is for socket AM5 while the socket you have is AM4. You can drop in a Ryzen 7 5000 series X3D processor onto the socket.

B650/X670/B850/X870 chipset motherboard
DDR5-6000MHz dual channel, tight latency AMD E.X.P.O ram kit

For the 7700x.

As for your GPU, how old is the PSU in your build?

I bought everything in March 2019 so the PSU is almost six years in use. Thank you for the information about the processor. Can I get any Ryzen 7 5000 series or Ryzen 5 5000 series? Which one would be best for my build and to pair with the 4070 Super for 1440p gaming? Would the Ryzen 7 5700x or Ryzen 9 5900X be good? Thank you very much.
