upgrading to ssd

i have a 1tb hard drive right now but i want to upgrade to an ssd when i upgrade my cpu and mobo. i want to put windows on the ssd so i was just going to unplug my hard drive when i install windows then when i got it all set up, turn off my pc unplug the ssd plug in the hard drive and wipe it with dban so i could use it as storage and get windows off of it that is on it right now. I was just wondering if it would all work fine because i seem to always have an issue whenever i do anything involving messing with windows.
