Hello,

I recently purchased a refurbished Dell Precision 490 Tower from newegg, and so far it's working very well - I even installed a wireless PCIe card (this is coming from a person who'd never before opened up a unit for any reason).

I keep getting prompted by Windows 7 to upgrade to Windows 10, which is appealing to me, given the fact I have an Xbox One and would love to take advantage of Windows 10's Xbox streaming capabilities, plus all the other new features that come with Windows 10.

However, when I received my PC in the mail, a flyer came with the others papers saying that the company (3rd party) I received the PC from had heard from some users that upgrading to Windows 10 will cause some features to not work properly. For example, on the newegg reviews for the product, one person mentioned that the integrated video card does not have drivers for Windows 10. Furthermore, the product page on Dell for the 490 explicitly states that they did not test this unit with Windows 10. I plan on upgrading video cards in the future, but all of this is making me wonder if I should upgrade at all or just stick with Windows 7.

My main question is, then, does anyone have any experience upgrading this particular unit to Windows 10? Otherwise, is there any advice to be given before making the decision to upgrade?

Thank you!

Not all hardware or software that runs with 7 is compatible with 10.

If you are willing to spend the time, which could be considerable, you *may* be able to get most of it functioning well.

A known history of issues with your particular model is a bit of a warning to you though that you may need to revert back to 7. That must be done within the first 30 days after the upgrade to 10 so insure that you do it when you have plenty of time for the project.

with any pc before you do the windows 7 to 10 or any update the first step is checking for drivers. dell may not have any updated drivers as a lot of vendor when they end of life a product wont support it with newer drivers. intel/nvidia may have newer drivers. may have to look under server mb chipset software for onboard gpu drivers for windows 10.
start with going under the device manager do a print screen then look on intel web page or google for newer drivers.
