So I just finished upgrading to windows 10, but I am using the older 10240 build/version.

I learned that there is now a newer version available as of novermber last year which is 1511(10586) build. I did some searching and found the iso for it, but wanted to know some things about it which I cannot seem to get from google.

I have downloaded windows10_x64_1511.iso or something like that. Doesn't say pro in the filename. I wanna know if I can update my existing windows installation with this image or do I NEED to download the pro version? I kind of hoped the update would tell what version you had....

You just finished upgrading to 10. Give it a little bit to catch up, and you should get the 10586 upgrade.

Yep.

As said, NO NEED to do anything other than verify Microsoft Updates is set to "automatic".

Start->
Settings->
Windows Updates->
Advanced Options->

*You can force updates to check for latest at the Windows Update window. If downloading a new build version that may take a while but it will tell you when you restart or after the pre-set time interval (will prompt to reboot if you go two days or whatever after an update is made available).

**Current BUILD version is under "Start->Settings->System->About"
