Upgrading Worth it?

I was wondering if I would be better off building a computer or if it wouldn't matter just upgrading my gpu (the main/only purpose of my computer is to game). I have an old 2320 I5 with some intel motherboard (not sure which one) But it has Pcix16 2.0 and is a few years old (cost around $80 at the time). My current Gpu is a Radeon HD 7850. The main goal is to get 60 fps on ALMOST all games I play, max settings 1080p. So around 50-60 fps on ultra bf4. Would a gtx 970 be bottlenecked and not get those frames? I was considering getting a 4790k with some asus z97 board, but its seems kinda pricey since I'm just focusing on gaming. Any thoughts? Thanks for the help! 😀

Sorry the double post, but drops are typically cause of CPU or network lag, so its hard to say for sure.

Also what is your GPU clock settings now? On mine I got 1175Mhz on the GPU core, and 1375Mhz on the vRAM using 1.14v, which is pretty much stock voltage (stock voltage is actually 1.138 normally). Though you may not do that well. I tried crossfire before and found it worked terrible so my brother got my 1st 7850 as...
If you ahve an i5-2320 then that is still a pretty good CPU and it would be better to just upgrade the GPU and not the full system.

You could try an overclock on the GPU. Like I said the CPU should do fine. As for the GPU I actually also use an AMD Radeon HD 7850 and I have a pretty good overclock on it. I play pretty much every game with max settings at 1080p and get 60FPS. There are few exceptions that I have seen so far, and even on those all I have to do is turn down AA and it still runs fine.

If you decide that you do want to upgrade, I would advise getting the GTX 970 first and trying it out on your system. I doubt that you will need a faster CPU, but if you do you can always use the system as it is with that GPU and then upgrade the CPU to an Ivy Bridge i7 to save cost and increase CPU performance to guarantee no bottleneck.

Dont OC if you are gonna play BF4 ultra.
It gives Device Hung error...
With me, one 7850 with the exact same setting gives about 30 FPS, But with CFX, 70 FPS.

Really, because on bf4 I can hardly run medium settings with my gpu 🙁

For what CoolaxGaming said, he is wrong when he says overclocking will cause errors. Some times they occur, they are certainly not consistent and lots of people overclock and play.

As for you BF4, its surprising that you cannot do higher settings. I play Shogun II Total War, Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider, and other games all maxed out just fine. I would say if its giving you that much trouble get the GTX 970 but the CPU is probably fine honestly, its still a top end CPU.

If you could help me that be great, whenever over locking throughout the catalyst manager, only in bf4 it gives me the device removed error"......

I just OC'd my gpu and its doing much better. But whenever I tab ult or just load in my battlefield runs terribly for about 15 secs and sometimes I get terrible drops on that game, but I can run it on ultra and I've noticed I get just as much drop at lower settings. Kinda weird but I don't think its my gpu's fault.

Crossfire only benefits a small number of games, a lot of them aren't set up for it. Anyways his card only manages to run about 1100Mhz GPU core and 1375Mhz vRAM. Though its buggy at that so he normally runs it lower.

I got the coreclock at 1025 and memory clock at 1405 (Msi afterburner wouldn't go much higher). But its handling it great, it doesn't go above 54C

A friend gave me this computer and it turns out the drivers for the cpu where 2 years old, thanks for all the help! After the overclocking and fixing the drivers bf4 runs great on ultra.
