upgrage to gtx 970 got questions

Hello guys im thinking about upgrading my pc

my rig:

mob: m5a97 r2.0
cpu: phenom II 965
current gpu: sapphire 6950 1gb version
psu: cooler master 650watt
I know if i buy a gpu i have to upgrade my cpu; So heres my first question

is 8350 will be enough for gtx 970?

buying 8350 will cost me 224 dolars, if i go for intel mobo and 4790 it will cost me 479 dolars

so is it worth it?

I'd get a 8320 and overclock it since you have the mobo to do so, assuming you get a proper cooler to do so. And yes either the 8320 or 8350 will be great for a 970. Last, 650W is enough for this project.

Yes, an overclocked 8350 would be enough as there maybe some potential bottlenecks with 8350 at stock speed.
So add an 30$ Hyper 212 and there would be no problems.
By the way which model is that PSU?

In that case, I'd get the 8320. At stock the 8350 is better, but when you overclock them they are within 0.1GHz of each other.

With the same setup. ex. 8350 hits 4.7GHz and 8320 hits 4.6GHz. Difference is unnoticeable. Save money and use it for extra costs or extra case fans, and buy the 8320.

Those are really old models both PSU and Cooler.
Can't say if it can handle FX's with overclock as an i5 even reaches to 70C at 4.2Ghz
