Hello,
I recently built my new pc. I have a i7 6700k Skylake and it was performing great until couple hours ago where I was messing around in the bios fan controller. I have a Asus Maximus 8. All of a sudden the CPU started getting hotter and hotter and eventually reached 80 degrees which is where I shut the machine off. My fans were working harder and harder as the temps rose.. Everything besides the CPU is VERY cold and is in optimal conditions. This doesn't make sense...I over clocked it a few days back but removed the over clock and was using the machine to the limits. I have a h100i water cooling kit by corsair. I don't know why the CPU is heating up. There's no reason which I can think of. Im going to remove the thermal paste and reinstall new paste. Please help me quickly. I have had this PC for not even a week 🙁

It is possible the h100i you purchased may have failed, that would explain the high temps. Does the 6700k come with a stock heat sink? I know the 6400/6500 does never looked if the 6700k does sorry. If it does try using the stock cooler and if the temps don't rise like before then there's your answer. If you have a cooler from the 1150 socket that will fit as well

Like I said before if you have an old 1150 cpu cooler available it will fit on that i7. Perhaps a friend has the stock heat sink from an old build? But I'm really thinking your cpu cooler may have failed. Did you check to make sure it's connected to the cpu fan pin on the mobo?
