Hi everyone on Toms hardware, I am going to buy a new LCD screen as soon as possible and wanted some quick advice. Im going to be using it for gaming so I want low input lag, but I also want to get an IPS monitor because Ive heard they look great

So I just wanted to know, what are acceptable input lag times for playing fast games like FPS ( Modern Warfare 2 for example ) ? Ive read somewhere that under 20ms is good enough but that was a 2 year old forum post so maybe that was just because you couldnt get any better.

And also are IPS monitors really that much prettier to look at while gaming when youre an average person ? If not ill just get a good TN that I know will perform well.

FYI ive been looking at these three monitors:
HP ZR24W ~ 10.0 ms input lag
Dell U2410 ~ 33.8 ms input lag normal, ~ 14.4 ms input lag game mode
Dell U2311H ~ 10.6 ms input lag

should also be noted that im currently using a CRT but have never had problems using LCD screens

thank you in advance

16ms of input lag is 1 frame of lag. That is usually acceptable to most people who wants to game on a non-TN panel monitor. My NEC LCD2690WUXi has input lag of 33ms or just over 2 frames. I personally find that to be acceptable. It is the primary monitor I use for gaming and surfing.

My Planar PX2611w has less than 8ms of input lag and I use it as a secondary monitor from time to time while I'm doing something on my pc but I also want to watch a movie or video. Sometimes I also use it for extra desktop space.

Of the 3 monitors you listed I would probably go with the HP, but I would also need to see some reviews. The dell u2311h is 16:9 aspect ratio which I'm not crazy about. I think I've read some complaints about the dell u2410h, but I don't recall them off the top of my head.
