Hi guys,

I am experiencing a really frustrating problem with, what a suppose, my laptop and more specifically the USB 3.0 ports on it.

I recently bought a Lenovo Ideapad Y700 with Winows 10 Home 64bit and I need to archive a lot of video data, so the files are very large. That explains why I really need those USB 3.0 ports to work perfectly.

I have an Orico HDD 3.5" Enclosure USB 3.0 that I put WDs 4TB in it. That device works well on the only 2.0 port that the laptop has, but as you guessed the speed isn't satisfying.

The copying/transfering process starts at approximatly 100MB/s then, in like two seonds, it goes down to zero to eventually just stop working (making the computer freeze a little) and disconnects itself.

This problem doesn't occur with my others Seagate External Hard disks. It only happens with those WDs 4TB. I tried on other computers (desktops) with Windows 10 and it works perfeclty., But a collegue of mine has a Lenovo Y510P and has the same problem. It looks like a problem asssociated to Lenovo.

I tried to install new drivers.
I put "Better Performance" settings through Device Manager.
Nothing worked...

I need help!

Thank you!

Frank!

Hey there, FDube92.

Sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing.
Make sure that the enclosure supports 4TB drives. Other than that, I'd recommend that you download DLG (Data Lifeguard) and run both tests (Quick and Extended), just to make sure that everything's OK with it. Here's how to do it: How to test a drive for problems using Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows.
What driver did you try to reinstall/update? Make sure that all the mobo drivers are up to date, including the USB controller's driver. Check the enclosure manufacturer's website, to see if a specific driver is necessary in order for it to work properly.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.
