USB C to Ethernet adapter not working (Acer A717-71G)

Hey everyone,
I've got this USB C to ethernet adapter for my laptop. The LEDs light up and it heats up over time but it doesn't seem to work at all. (neither Win10 / MacOS Mojave) The page shows it's plug and play and doesn't need any software.
Can anyone help?

The plastic cover of the built-in ethernet port broke, and the cable always falls out, that's why I got the adapter

So you are trying to connect your Ethernet to your computer via a USB-C port? If that is the case, then I would say that the adapter may be faulty.

Check the Ethernet connection through a different device (connect another laptop or computer directly through its Ethernet port using the same main cable (not the adapter). If it works fine, then it isn't your cable and likely the adapter.

Cable works fine with both my main PC and my laptop's built-in port
