Hi,

Just curious if USB eject is always recommended for every device. I understand that for USB storage devices its recommended, but how about gaming peripherals like a racing wheel and pedals.

I just connected my gaming wheel and handbrake etc to USB and there is no eject in taskbar, so should I go to devices and always remove the 4 devices every time I quit gaming, or is this unecessary can I just pull the plug and thats it ?

Also when using USB hub should I just switch power off and remove the cable ?

I try to ALWAYS use the eject option if available. It can't hurt.
Thanks, but I dont actually see the eject option in the right corner taskbar ?
Only option I see is in settings - devices - remove device.

I feel like this would not eject the usb but remove the config or something for the device and I would have to wait for windows/software to re-install it everytime I plug it in . Also doing this daily multiple times a day for 4 devices seems a little slow ?

Mine says "Safely remove hardware and eject media". I treat that as the "eject button". When I click on it I get a list of USB storage with an "Eject" option.

Guess.....the eject option is for devices you can write to.

the point of the "safely remove" option is to prevent data loss if it is writing/reading from the drive when you remove it. that's why your wheel/mouse/keyboard don't need it. they are not going to suffer data loss.

it really became an issue when windows started using thumb drives and such as cache items. so even though you may not have used it in an hour it could still be working hard as a cache device. this is why they could get so hot even though sitting idle. it was in fact working pretty hard. so "ejecting" it told windows to finish what it was doing, erase the cache and let you remove it. if you did not take this step it was possible and easy to brick the device.

The control for the Safely Remove option can be found by opening up the Device Manager app, selecting the usb device, selecting Properties and then selecting Policies. You will then see the Removal Policy which Defaults to Quick Removal with Write Caching disabled. If you refrain from selecting the Better Performance option you will not have to worry about safely removing hardware. And if a usb device does not have a Policies tab in the Properties dialog box then you will also not have to worry about Quick Removal or any other type of removal.
