Hello,

I have a Seagate USB external hard drive that connects fine to my Windows 7 computer, but I can't get it to show up on my Windows XP computer.

I can hear the tone you hear when a USB device connects, but I can not see the hard drive when I check under My Computer or Explorer.exe.

Can someone tell me how to get this drive to show up on my XP computer?

Does the drive show in device manager? If so change the drive letter of the USB device. It may be a drive letter conflict.

Is there an exclamation point in device manager after the connect?

I am a photographer with very limited knowledge of computers, so I don't understand when you say "change the drive letter of the USB device".

If it would help understand my problem, I have two links that show my problem.

This first image shows the USB connected hard drive in my Device Manager:

The second image shows the list of drives in explorer.exe and the USB drive is not showing up here:

This worked perfect.

What had happened is the USB connected drive letter was assigned to drive "G", and that previously was assigned to my Drobo, so it was listed as Drobo in explorer.exe.

I now have access to the files on this new USB drive.

Thanks for sticking with me on this problem.

Here is the 100% working solution !!!

No need to make any partitions in your External Hard Drive and No need to shift to exFAT or FAT32 also...

You will get a full NTFS External Hard Drive that will work in Windows XP and higher and also in all TVs...!

Follow this link, its a full video tutorial on YouTube by me... And ya its simple also...
