Hello, at work we have a Fonestar MA-181RU PA amplifier and when you plug in usb drive to play music it works great but it just randomly stops after some hours and it won't detect that usb drive ever again no matter if I reformat it or turn amplifier off/on. Same thing happened on three different usb drives. Any idea what could cause this and what could I try to do?

This amplifier?

How many hours is "some hours"?

If the USB drive is removed after a shorter period of use will the USB drive work when reinserted back into the amplifier?

Do the USB drives continue to work on other devices? Or can be reformatted or otherwise made to work again on other devices?

Does the USB drive get very warm or even hot when in use?

My thought is that the amplifier's USB port is defective in some manner and likely destroying the USB drives via too much current/heat.

Hey, Yes thats the amplifier thanks for trying to help out.
  • its about 30min - 2 hours.
  • No, it won't detect USB drive even after couple of days even tho it works normally in pc/tv, I tried to format it and put back again but no luck. I tought at first that usb reader died but then i put sd card into one of these usb readers and connected it into amplifier and same thing play music, stop, doesnt detect anymore.. For warm/hot part I am not sure don't have any new usb drive to test it.
  • SD card reader next to it works but music on it sound so bad like really bad, like its super slowed down and without power. Tried 2 different sd cards. I remember first time i plugged new sd card that I bought for test it loaded music perfectly but was very loud, i pressed (Vol -) button and it started again with powerless/slowed down sound like first sd card and it woudn't go away no matter do i try to put volume as loud as before or insert it our and plug in back..

Here's a long shot.. perhaps there is a limit to folder name and file name length? Would it be worth shortening all those to see if it works...maybe even start with a limited library and run it.
Also, the user manual has little info. What file format are you using. Any difference if you do NTFS vs FAT32?

I only tried NTFS after it already stopped detecting usb so i can't say but tried to contact Fonestar on instagram, they told me to use FAT32 and stopped replying. Name length is not issue, limited library is good guess if only it would detect usb again

Wait.....

Question regarding:

"No, it won't detect USB drive even after couple of days even tho it works normally in pc/tv, "

Do I understand correctly that the USB drive(s) permanently stop working in the Fonestar amplifier but those same USB drives do work in PC's and TV via their respective USB ports?
