So, I have a 64 gb usb. I downloaded the win 10 installation file and after checking on it after the installation, it only has "half" of its total storage maximum. I went in disk management and it is in 2 partitions: ESD-USB and Unallocated. I tried formatting the first one...in FAT32 and NTFS, but nothing allows me to merge them...sooo am I screwed?

EDIT: I cant make a new volume in the unallocated one and cant fully delete the first one.

Solution

Yes, thats pretty much it.
The issue people get into is working with the wrong drive or partition, or using the wrong command for what they thought they wanted to do.

Using it to create a Win 10 install will format it at 32GB, leaving the rest of it unusable.
In Disk Management, when you right click on it, what options does it give you?

When right clicking on ESD-USB...
1) Open
2) Explore
3) Change Drive Letters and Paths
4) Format
5) Properties
6) Help

When right clicking on unallocated...

1) Properties
2) Help

Anything not mentioned was greyed out in DM

Eh. I'm not too good with command prompts. Is there a step-by-step for this? Just don't want to kill my drives...

Read. Lots.
Be absolutely sure what drive you are working with

And now you have another tool in your box of tricks...:)
Keep it in your back pocket, for when you really need it.

Heh, sure do. I knew about diskpart, but just didn't quite know how to execute it (Ok, not literally kill it...you know what I mean in tech terms). I guess you are a mod/expert here, so yeah, its nice to have info from a professional.

Yeah, that's kinda why I just wanted the confirmation when asking about the step by step...
