Question USB Hub doesn't work

So I bought a usb hub for my old pc because I needed more ports, only 2 ports in the back of the motherboard are working. When I plug anything directly to the ports, it works perfectly fine. But as soon as I connect the usb hub, no matter what I plug in, nothing gets picked up by windows. Doesn't make any sense, immediately after i intercept the connection with a usb hub it stops working. I have tried with 2 brand new usb hubs, so it's definitely not a faulty product. I'm stumped, can anyone share any ideas?

What kind of Hub are you using?

Did you try a powered Hub?

He means a USB hub that has a plug pack for power, so all those additional USB ports have the correct amount of power. Something like this (this is just an example, there are plenty to choose from) Powered USB Hub

What computer do you have? Does it have USB 2.0 or 3.0 ports?
