I have a startech 4 bay docking station which I use on my win 10 PC, every now and again windows can not see it, even though it is never disconected.

When this happens I can not see it in disc management, nor explorer. In device manager there is USB mass storage device. I know there is nothing wrong with any of the hard drives in the docking station.

I have resovled the promblem quite a few times by uninstalling the USB mass storage device in device manager, but the problem keeps coming back. I have even had windows loose the docking bay while I am using my PC, telling me it can no longer write the the hard drives, so I know it's not a start up problem.

Another problem I have is trying to uninstall the USB mass storage device in device manager Most of the times I uninstall it the green uninstall line hardly moves from the start of the box, I have to restart and do it again untill the green line moves along the uninstall box, I have had to do the uninstall process 20 or 30 times, which can take over a hour to do, untill it's uninstalled properly.
After I manage to uninstall the USB mass storage device properly the hard drives show up for a week or 2 before windows can't find them again.

Solution
i think the drivers are malfunctioning. it may possible that it is not compatible with win 10. but somehow it is working with win 10 which is commonly i have seen.so i would like to suggest to move to win 8 or win 7. or else you can find the compatible hardware with win 10.

The docking bay does not need drivers and support any OS. The problem is the Windows 10 USB mass storage drivers. I can not revert back to Win 8 as I do not get the option, as I have looked as I have tried to do that.

Use my solution to RESOLVE your problem .....
Like yourself I too dug deep into just about every available forum to find an answer to this problem, and all the cyberspace suggestions did not work at all.
Anyway, I finally tested my own solution to this problem and it worked.
Here it is ... plug in any sized USB flash drive into the back of the computer, and let it reside there permanently.
Reboot your computer and then use the front USB socket/s and you will hear the usual sound of recognition first and the icon will appear in the system tray as usual.
Now you can test it by unplugging it in the safe way, wait a few seconds and plug it in again and you will be surprised to see it work no matter how many times you unplug it and plug it back again.
Hope this has resolved everyones USB problems.
Cheers
