I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but my issue seems to be my USB mouse conflicting with some other driver, so I posted it on windows 7.
I have been having the issue for a few weeks now, unclear as to exactly when, or why. The problem is not with the mouse, as I have tried 2 other mice and used it on another computer with no issues. Basically when I use the mouse, it will randomly disconnect from the computer and I hear the dun-dun sound (connecting hardware) through my speakers, and after a few seconds (sometimes 5, sometimes 35) it will come back online. I am currently using an Alienware MG900, but I have also tried a Microsoft and Gateway mouse. There are no other issues with anything else plugged in through my USB ports (keyboard, headset and multiple other USB drives), and I have tried moving the connection from the mouse to 6 different ports (4 on back, 2 on front) with no progress. I have also tried searching the web and found nothing that helps me with my problem.
What I have tried:
-Changing the connection port
-Updating all drivers
-Uninstalling and rebooting USB drivers (had to do 2 then reboot and do another 6 because keyboard is USB as well)
-Running computer in safe mode
-Rebooting computer to factory default (twice)
-Updating Realtek HD Audio Driver
-Updating Nvidia Graphics Driver
-Checking event log for errors
-Running sfc /scannow
-Uninstalling all previous windows updates and programs
-Multiple Microsoft fix-its
-Windows Troubleshooter (found hardware changes might not have been detected [cant find a fix for this either])
-Checking Device manager for yellow alerts (only found SOMETIMES when mouse goes offline on the HID devices for 1-2 seconds)
-Power Saver options on high-performance
-Cleaning laser under mouse
-Pulling on cable that connects to pc/mouse
-Full PC scan- no virus/malware found
-View hidden devices in Device Manager (i keep getting a "Microsoft PS/2" that wont uninstall, but says: This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24))
-Tried updating the BIOS (first time and not sure if I did it correctly-msinfo32 says correct version)

If you can think of anything else for me to try, please tell me and I will try it, I am out of options here, and have no idea how to diagnose the problem or fix it.

Note: With this mouse, there is no light on the laser underneath, but there is one on the top that goes out for several seconds during the inactivity of the mouse.

(i keep getting a "Microsoft PS/2" that wont uninstall, but says: This device is not present

I had a asus board that did this error never figured it out needless to say that board was short lived and never worked right from day one [sabertooth]
only thig I could figure was that something in the usb was defective on the board [???]

Update: Bios seems fully updated and I tried plugging in the older Microsoft mouse again, and it seems to work fine with that mouse, but the Alienware MG900 still cuts out, even if i have both plugged in at the same time.

I downloaded the new driver, and tried using the mouse again, haven't had any disconnects yet, but I did have an issue of it restricting my movement. The cursor would follow along a diagonal line from the bottom left to the upper right corner of the screen, no matter how much i dragged the mouse, I couldn't get the cursor into the bottom right corner or the upper left.

Edit: Just turned off again. NOT FIXED

ya, I had a front panel usb port start acting up and it affected things unplugged it from the board and all was good .. but with out being there for a hands on I don't know what else to say just look over any og the usb header connections to be sure there right -- insure the boards driver for them is installed right then after that it comes down to faulty hardware and seeing you been using 3 mice and they all do it at some point you got to look more at the boards usb controller at fault.

Recently i have been getting:
This device cannot start. (Code 10) error from the microsoft mouse. The only way I have found to fix it is disabling the device, then re enabling it. It is getting very frustrating.

I don't know you need to try a ps/2 keyboard and see how well it works so you can get in there and do something -- most all newer boards work out of the box on usb2 so you could access the bios and get things up and going

I feel this issue may be the boards usb is faulty seeing all the usb as you said above --- ''Plugged in the older one again, and now both of them are disconnecting. I guess I was just lucky for a while.'' ------ ''would the USB hub going bad effect 3 different usb locations and ONLY the mice plugged into them? '''

after all you have done it may just be the usb is bad on that board

Its all USB 2.0, so that link shouldn't be my problem, but I am using a H57 motherboard, my computer is basically Gateway FX6840-03e, with a GT 610 graphics card, had some issues with the radeon and had to change it.

Its okay, I appreciate all the help you've given me. The problem seems to be fixed temporarily by the Microsoft fix-it, but even though it says its fixed, the problem continues and when I run the fixer again, it says it fixes it again as well. Is there a way for me to check if its the motherboard without replacing it? I don't have a second one to try at the moment.
