I have earbuds with an in line mic on it. They are some regular headphones with a mic. They have a 3.5mm plug on the end. I have Windows 7 and a 3.5mm jack on the laptop. I connect the headphones and talk on Skype. The problem is, I get audio through the headphones, but my mic on the headphones isn't the mic being used to record sound. Instead, it uses my built in laptop mic. I don't want this. How do I get my headphone mic to work as my default mic? Thank you in advance.

Solution
Does your laptop have two 3.5mm jacks? If so then you may need to use a splitter (usually about 5 or 10 bucks) to separate the single jack into two or buy a headset that has two separate plugs.

My options in recording devices are:

Microphone - Realtek Audio
Stereo Mix - Realtek Audio

So it was previously set to the "Microphone", which apparently is my laptop mic. Ok so I changed it to stereo mix and set it as default communication device, but the problem is, the other person couldn't hear me at all upon doing so. When I switch back to the "Microphone", they can hear me again, and I verify that its my laptop mic because I make a sound close to each to see which one it is. And I also verified that this inline mic on my headphones indeed works during cellphone calls. What am I missing?
