Use OEM Windows key to refresh laptop

My brothers laptop has gotten pretty slow, so he planned on using the refresh feature. When he goes to refresh it tells him to some files are missing and that the instalation media will fix it. Its a acer laptop and it didnt come with a recovery disk, so im wondering if i can use a OEM CD version of windows 8 that i used to install on another PC to fix the refresh problem.

The correct version of Windows that came with the laptop should work fine. Activation is tied to the motherboard/BIOS starting with W8, so you should be ok to 'refresh'. Not sure what that actually involves though, so if it's not a fresh install starting from formatting the HDD, you might want to consider that

okay thanks for the help, just wanted some reasurance as the disk wasnt used for that specific computer.
