Use Old Hard Drive as slaves safe?

Greetings. I have looked through my old computers and found two ~500GB Hard drives. I don't know if I should wipe all the data and further use them as slave drives for my main build. When i boot up with either of the two hard drives as slave i do get some extra noise from the hard drive. Is doing this safe or are there any cons?

Ofcourse with old drives there are risk of it dying already. What i suggest is to run both 500 gb as raid 1 drives. meaning they both will synchronize. When 1 is dead, you still have your files. Well thats just personal opinion

Will there be any risk to any of my other components or just the old drive?

Only the old drives. A dying drive would not affect the OS Drive at all. Unless you have some applications installed on the old drives.

I can't find any use for these now... think they would go for anything if I wipe them clean?

Probably yes. But not alot. Hard drive prices now are really low compared before. But yeah they can be sold for something. Just make sure to clean them thoroughly.

modern 500GB HDD cost nothing brand new these days and if you are complaining about how noisy they are i think anyone you try to sell them too would be trying to get their money back from you for the same thing. just use them as extra storage

don't know if i can trust it. pretty old drive and the sounds are worrying me. also feel as if i put something on and the hard drive fails, ill lose a lot of data; don't see what to put on it.
