Use VPN for internet but let programs use internal domain connection

My work is extremely strict when it comes to the internet. However, i have to use it to complete some parts of my work. Ironically they really don't care and do not want to accommodate even access to work related sites. Imagine if Nazi Berlin had high speed intenet. Somewhat like that. I use PIA VPN at home and i thought, hey i can use this here. So i did. And it worked. But, now 2 programs that i use that connect to internal domain based servers i guess try and use the VPN which will then now allow those programs to connect. Guessing it's a IP Packet filter in the firewall. How can i get just my browser to use the VPN and leave my other network use programs go through the internal domain network?
