So I bought a Phillips hue light setup and had to set up wireless router and the Phillip's bridge. Now I have this wireless router not running internet more just like a private network. Is there a way that I can give this router a connection to the internet via xfinitywifi? I am a customer and have my main Xfinity router setup at my dads house. I had been getting by using the xfinitywifi "public wifi off another customer in my apartment building"... my xbox and all my phones , laptops, all use with public xfinity wifi... is there a way to feed my private wifi internet via xfinitywifi?

I'm wondering if this is possible because it's a pain to switch to a different wifi on my phone just to control the lights and then switch back to browse the internet.

I am surprised more people do not disable the public hotspot since it shares the bandwidth on your internet connection.

You have a couple issue trying to use a router to connect to a hotspot like this. First the router must be able to act as a end device like a nic card in a pc or phone. The primary function is the reverse they allow connections from end devices to connect.

The router would need a feature called client-bridge. When you do this then the router will no longer accept connections from your end devices. You might be able to run in repeater mode but again it must have the feature and you are making things even more complex.

The next problem is the login screen. The router itself can not log into the xfinity page. It maybe possible to use a device connected via the router to do it but it all depends on how the system is setup.

At some point it is easier to just pay the money and do it the correct way rather than trying to get around the system.

So I am still working on this. Have a laptop that is connected to xfinitywifi and then I'm sharing the wifi using ethernet from the laptop to the router.
Just not receiving the internet in my network. Cannot ping the default gateway of the Xfinity wifi from a device connected to my network
