So I recently picked up a used board with no I/O shield… I’m pretty carful with my computers and obviously won’t drop crap down the side… do I even need one?

Need one? No, but it would look cleaner with one.

Last board I installed had no I/O shield so I 3d printed one. I did it inverted so I could install it from the outside of the case with the MB already mounted.

It's probably too late to choose otherwise since you've already made the purchase, but my concern would be an indirect one. If the user didn't even care enough about the motherboard to retain the I/O shield, just how well did they care for the motherboard otherwise?

board is in perfect condition... no bumps scratches or nothing. apprantly it was a pre-installed one and he removed it from his board because he had problems with the case and must've misplaced it.

You are good.
The shield is mostly cosmetic.
If you want, look for a replacement i/o shield on ebay.
im good lol, you cant tell because of the shroud over the io. Other then that the motherboard is in best condition ive ever bought used, thanks for the help!!!

Yeah not a big deal. But for those with OCD you can always find one on ebay or AliExpress.

The only time it bothers me is if I see one missing on a used for sale system.

My instant reaction is nope hack job to make a buck.
