what an article! A misspelled title, followed by an error code with no context of what that code does or what it relates to! It is like so many of my customers at work:
"my computer isn't working, I am not a computer person, I just want you to walk me through how to fix it"
"well what is it doing or not doing?"
"I already told you, I am not a computer person"
"If you want me to walk you through then I need to know what the problem is"
"What kind of computer place can't walk a customer through a simple way to fix things?!?!?" *click*

I'm no grammar Nazi, but a bit of a spell freak. Tom's is ate up with a lack of proof reading. Use spell check at bare minimum please. As far as SP1, I patched with Windows Update. No issues. I've also installed this copy of Windows several times due to upgrading HDD to SSD to better SSD. You just have to call MS and have them update your key. As long as it's only on one PC..you'll be fine. Hell my copy is the college $29 upgrade and I've reinstalled it just fine.

The problem is not with home users downloading and installing SP1 but on corporate networks that run a WSUS (a in house windows update server for those that don't know what WSUS us) and deployed the update via WSUS. Glad I found this article as I would of approved SP1 in a few days which could of caused me a few headaches.

[citation][nom]andrewpmathias[/nom]Good! I hope it did. Ass. Quit pirating software because your too cheap to buy a legit version.[/citation]
i say only one thing, in an economy where i can barely afford to pay my insurance, rent, utilities, and then hope there is enough money to Comfortably feed my wife and i. why should i have to pay out 150-400$ just to have a computer both i AND my wife can use. i build my own computers to SAVE cost, not get stuck dishing out MORE than 35% < hardware, accounting for the most basic windows version possible 99+ $ in contrast of ~350>the cost of the hardware i use to assemble this MODERN LIFE NECCISITY!

[citation][nom]john5246[/nom]It also ruins the windows 7 activation crack! Be cautious![/citation]
OMG Nooooo! They did something to inconvenience the theifs!

Here is a small note for you: Most service packs WILL include fixes for activation hacks. Since he publicly posted this it really makes me lose faith in the human race. If you steal you don't tell people about it...that is just normal human behavior...why someone steals then states it is pure stupidity. Your comment would be more suited for a hacking website where everyone is using hacked software not here. They offered Win 7 for $99 as a pre-order so there was absolutely no reason to obtain 7 illegally.

Besides that, since when does the fact that you can't afford something justifies stealing it?

"ohh, what a nice ring, sadly can't afford it..." -> Steals(?)

If you are building computers to save money, or don't want/can't afford the extra money for an OS, get Linux. It's free and works great!

Windows 7 is just like Vista rehashed. Full of gimmicks and fancy tricks. Aero Snap? There's a far better version in XP called Tile Horizontally or Tile Vertically that isn't limited to arranging just two windows but any number you select. There are many good useful features of XP removed and broken in Windows 7. The file manager, Windows Explorer was utterly destroyed in Vista and becomes worse in Windows 7. Poor usability. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_features_removed_in_Windows_7 and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_features_removed_in_Windows_Vista . Unnecessary GUI changes. Vista was innonative but horrible usability wise and removed things. Windows 7 is Vista with few new features and again many features removed and fancy gimmicks and shiny graphics added. Sure it's more secure and XP is also *secure enough*.

How about producing a more reasonable spectrum of product? and as i said Linux is free but do i wanna deal with a bitchy wife who will inevitable EXPECT to revert to Windows? and i dont JUSTIFY stealing the item but do i have a choice ? No at This time i do not have an alterante viable option. those who cannot comprehend Theft for NECCESITY have obviously never been homeless for an extended duration in a continental climate... sometimes u HAVE to take things to simplify life. and in some cases even maintain life. in this case of stealing Software,. its obviously not life sustaining. but is more rational.

windows activation is a pig and a half for those who regularly swap out components, swapping the video card hard disk motherboard will result in needing to reactivate and you only got 5 of them, but i have been told from a friend that if you phone the customer support line and tell them nicely that you upgraded you computer system again 3 out of 5 times they will give you a brand new key good for another 5 activation

of course that's all too much a hassle for me, that and i also buy OEM versions which get no support, so i employ the hack........

[citation][nom]ranyunsu[/nom]Oh yeah i bought my windows 7 pro (retail) directly from microsoft and they now blocked my key because they said i installed it to many times. as far as im concerned i can install it as many times as i damm well please as long as it is not on more than one computer at a time but not according to microsoft so hell with them i am using the crack on all my computers now microsoft can kiss my ass i have never stole a thing from them but thats how they treat me. oh i for got they offered to sell my another license for a very fair and reasonable $150 bones. they can kiss my ass! so please do not jump to conclusions why people are bypassing the W-A-T![/citation]
I also have a retail win 7 pro and I've reinstalled it several times and I never had any problem. Since I live in Europe, perhaps here it's different.

Working at a computer store, we've had problems with people who updated their windows using the WSUS. We fixed them by editing the pending.xml file like we weren't supposed to....

I haven't had any issues with regular Windows Update to get SP1 or even the downloaded manual installer. The only issues I've seen were with Windows Server Update Service.

I recently installed SP 1 on my laptop running Win 7 64 bit, and since then I've had trouble with device drivers, program stability, inability to fully come out of hibernation and one program that refuses to boot at all. As a bonus, the service pack install wiped out ALL of my restore points, so I'm unable to use system restore. I'm getting ready to reinstall EVERYTHING!

[citation][nom]cookoy[/nom]so it's the update process via WSUS that is buggy and not the SP1 itself[/citation]

That seems to be the case.

meh, hes not stealing. He has a copyof it. He just didnt pay for it. ie copyingmakes 2 of 1 thing while if he was stealing there would be one less of it in the world, which there isn't.

Ubuntu is the one and with a little work you can run many Windows PC games on it.

I am on my last buy of Windows, win 7 64 OEM. When my gaming rig gets too old (will be at least 3-6 years) I am going to replace it it with a big iMac, not even bother bootcamping it. By then the PS4 will be out and STEAM on Mac gets better every day.

Good luck running portal with your i'_ and its intel hd3000 graphics and a lack of space for a dedicatrd vid card that is an actual tangable upgrade and not a sidegrade.

Legit win 7 ultimate owner here. (Along with a few copies of Pro) and I use the cracks simply because a thunderstorm took out a pair of mobos, a cpu, and a vid card. (Nevermind all the psu) after that and reinstalling 7 I got the big. Number 1 by windows so every comp but the one running ultimate is cracked. Windows seriously needs to lighten up on the anti crack crap, all it does is inconveience the honets people, just like gun control.

Did your dumb ass even read the fact that he has a legit copy? And congratulations on being brain washed to believe copyright infringement = theft, which it is not, and your last statement doesn't apply to the millions who bought a new computer AFTER win 7 released...Since you publicly posted this it really makes me lose faith in the human race, in your presence, I face-palm. Ciao
