Using 2 Controllers as "Player 1"

Hi guys. I have 2 Xbox 360 controllers and want to use in a game that's Single Player, but in a way that me and my brother can play without passing the controller.
Anyone knows a way to do that, or a program that edit players in a controller?

Go for simplicity: Hand him the controller.

Going beyond that is your requirement that you are player x and then when he gets the controller he is, or can become, player y?

With player x having some set of attributes and player y some other set of attributes?

What I want is that the 2 controllers works as "Player X", with all atributes.
Passing the controller is horrible in our situation. That's why I'm asking.

Yeah, this is more or less what I have been searching. But I want for PC, and. if possible, a program that edit the players in controllers. It's hard for me to buy this "Crossfire" thing, because I'm brazilian and this thing here is overpriced T.T
But thanks Ralston, I'm keeping searching to a more easy way to play. o/
