using a 2nd router to verify a faulty port

Hey, i'm not particularly an expert so this may seem really stupid but I just want to make sure there's not a flaw in my logic or something really obvious that i'm missing.

Basically, router 1 is working splendidly with no troubles until a thunderstorm hits earlier today. A blackout occurs, and since the power has returned the dsl light is blinking green and no internet, but the lan is working. I tried the whole unplug/replug routine a few times, no luck.

I have a 2nd router lying about that i've plugged in for the time being, and while using the same cables as router 1, everything is working normally. Meanwhile, plugging router 1 back in makes the dsl light continue to blink.

It seems obvious that this means the dsl port on router 1 is buggered, but I parted with $200 for this bastard only 4 months ago so I want to make absolutely sure i'm right. And if so, is this repairable, or is this router dead at a young age?

A thunderstorm could have damaged the DSL port on the router. It is connected to the phone grid which, if you don't have underground utilities, is susceptible to electrical spikes. Pull the power from router 1, then do a factory reset (you will have to reconfigure your wireless and any port forwards). If your DSL port is still non-functional then I believe your router was a victim of a "drive by electrocution" ...

No luck. Tried pressing reset button, tried the hold reset for 30 seconds while turning on trick, tried resetting router setting through 192.168.1.1, internet still offline

Kanewolf, I do have underground utilities, but the phone pit isn't watertight and becomes something of a swimming pool in heavy rain, which probably makes electrocution all the more likely
