Using a fan header on mobo to power a fan controller?

Hey guys, had an odd question I really can't figure out myself.

Me and the guys I work with just built some new workstations. We have 3 case fans that need powered, but they are currently running through the fan controller on the case itself. The fan controller connection is a molex. And to prevent plugging in a molex cable to the PSU, we took a molex to 4 pin fan connector, and attached it to one of the fan headers on the mobo. Make sense so far?

My question:

Will the fan header provide enough power to the controller and all the fans to run properly? Or should we go ahead and use a molex to prevent problems? We haven't booted the systems up yet, but will be doing so today.

Solution
Going to need the rating of the fan header and the total power draw of the three fans + controller.

I think the rule of thumb is two fans per header maximum, but really up to motherboard what they built it to handle.

If you just need 12V you can swipe a PCIe connector to power the controller.
