Ever since I saw the Skyreach 4 Mini case I've been saving up for an ITX build centered around the case as I love the portability it offers. Gaming laptops are an easier alternative for my needs but I've decided to not get a replacement for my current laptop as gaming laptops aren't great in the long run.

For the pc to be a truly portable solution I'd need a display with me wherever I went and I think my aging laptop should do. But I couldn't find any example online where the desktop powered up straight into the laptop's display.

I've seen apps like spacedesk that extend the primary display of the desktop, but that means I need a monitor for the desktop to begin with. I'm not sure if the projection option from windows will work either. I don't need the laptop's keyboard and trackpad to work, I just need the laptop to act as a display for my desktop. How do I achieve this?

I do have a monitor at home so I can use that to setup whatever's needed on the desktop end.

Solution
You would need a capture card (or desktop box) in order to do this and there's going to be significant delay.

Laptops are not meant to act as a monitor for an external source, so no there's not really a way to do this.
