Hey! I want to achieve a weird scenario. What I want to establish is, I want to setup a phone in a foreign country (ie. India), so maybe a landline or a cellphone which can make local calls within the country.

Now I am residing in a differing country, (ie. Australia) and what I want to configure is that, how can I setup a such device in India and connect it to internet (in my home there) and I then call an Indian number via the INTERNET and this call is sent to the internet-connected device in India and that device forwards this call (or adds me as a conference) to a local number.

So, basically, say I want to dial the number; "+91 9555555555" using a VOIP or some internet telephone system via my mobile in Australia. This VOIP call is first sent to the Indian internet connected device which then forwards it via a Cellular Network call to the end destination. Essentially I am trying to avoid my local cellular network charging me for international calls.

Is anything like this possible?

Thanks.

There are several options to circumvent the charging issue. But none that work on voice only using a standard cellular network. They all require a mobile data plan.

One option is to get a voip line. I have one and i pay only 5 cents a minute to england/europe if i need to call there. You might have a similar option available in australia.

Option 2 is pay for a skype static phone number or a google static phone number in your host country of australia and to connect via wifi and use these services. This is very similar to voip.

Hi!

I've thought about Skype and so, but here's what I thought.

I have a spare android phone lying around in India, I'd setup that permanently on charge and connected to WiFi 24/7. Then that phone will have a local SIM connection to make and receive calls.

Then maybe I could connect that phone to a VOIP device or install an app which whenever that phone receives a call, it diverts it to my other phone via a VOIP app or some sort.

Maybe I will be happy to install an extra device if needed also. Only trying to avoid continuous monthly charges however from services like Skype Phone or what not.

If a phone cannot do it, I'd be happy to purchase a device which can do the job.

So basically you want to set up an android phone in india and then have an app running which will then access the phone and forward it to someone who could be anywhere in india? This temote phone number might or might not be a pots (plain old telephone with wires) or flip phone with no app support.

That just doesnt exist. It might be possible to write such an app. There are apps which allow you to make calls from the app and i know there are apps which can tecord your calls. I just dont think anyone has put 1+1 together yet that i know of. There are "call forwarding" apps as well but they onfly forward to one number.

Right yeah I had low hopes for an app

So does such a device exist that I can insert a SIM into and connect it to my modem to be 1+1 sort?

It'd be similar to Skype sort of. Like I use internet from my end to call a cellular number to my end destination.
