Using a Second Power Supply

I recently bought a case and it came with a no name 300watt powersupply, and I am definetly going to buy a better one to put together my system, but i dont want to just stick it on a shelf, so i was wondering if any of you guys out there would know how to use this extra powersupply of mine to power my case fans, might as well use it for something, but i have plugged fans into it and plugged it into the wall and switched it on but no juice, how do i get it to actually power on without having it connected to a mother board?

You have to jump the power detect wires together on the motherboard connector. Can't remember the color but they are usually thinner.
