Using adsl modem router as only router

Hi,

I have a belkin adsl modem with wifi router. I got my internet using a telephone cable for which this modem was working good. But my new isp provides internet via the ethernet cable itself. Now i dont want to spend extra money to get a seperate router. I was wondering on if could use my existing router for the new isp broadband.

You can if its got an ethernet cable input. Most ADSL modem/routers have a phone line input only.

Yes it has only phone line input. It has 4 lan ports also. I was wondering if one of the ports can be used as input.

Depending on what type of router you have, it would be best to ask your ISP if it works with what setup you're getting. They may also give you a router for free, depending on who you go with.

No - the lan (ethernet) ports are all outputs

Ethernet ports are in and out, I am pretty sure there is no such thing as a one way Ethernet cable.

They had none and strictly told me to get a new router. But for now i plugged it to my pc.

If it works staright to your pc, then is all that you want? Or wifi and/or ethernet for other users?

I want wifi .. All the devices in my home is wifi.
