my case keeps overheating, basically my motherboard has a really bad layout and ive upgraded all my heatsinks but my ram kept overheating due to bad layout under heavy load

i would get the occaisional bsod and it was basically driving me insane.

ive resorted to leaving the side of the case open and placing it directly in front of my airconditioner unit.

im getting temperatures as low as 14c under no load, and i was wondering if im asking for trouble here.

is it possible to get too cold? is condensation going to be a problem?

would it be a good idea to put the side of my case back on? it has two inlet fans on the side facing the ac so if its going to reduce any hazaards i might have i will throw it on there.

i googled around didnt find much about using residential window units to cool pcs

Actually I've seen a forum where a guy did this for overclocking reasons. He took some kind of large hose and attached it to the output of the air cooler. He cut a hole large enough on the side panel and duct taped it onto the hole. Now, his computer was his AC unit and he was overclocking. I don't remember how long ago that was, but it seemed like multiple other people said they were gonna do it too. It didn't seem like anyone thought it was a bad idea.

Other than that, I think that your case probably sucks...

Blowing cool air directly on the mobo is a good idea. Condensation will not occur because the computer is warmer than the air blowing at it. The reverse is necessary for condensation.

Don't worry - you will not over-cool the computer by blowing cool air from an a/c - even directing the air from a table fan to the computer will help the situation.

Ok, you didnt say what brand/model case this is and you didnt say if its still overheating when you've got a load on it. AC in the case wont hurt, but its not really fixing the problem your just masking it.
Seems to me you need to look at.......
1. Better fans to move air through the case
2. A better case that will allow airflow
Just saying.............

do you have cats? animals?

i have 3 cats and 2 dogs and my comp started overheating. my fans were clean and i took of the side, cranked my fans up to 100% and still no change. then i looked UNDER the cpu fan to the heatsink, yup covered in dander.

this is the case, its not very good but i got it for 14 after rebate, it looks liked a riced out civic but hey its cheap and not terrible

http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/gmc_x7/6.htm

i put a few extra fans in, all told its 3 120mm and 2 80mm, with the ac pumping in the side there are not even remotely any problems.

even the classic box fan taped to the side of the case wasnt cooling enough, i have no idea what the is worng.

i think it may just have to with it being very hot (90f+) and around 90-100% humidity for the past few weeks.,

also thanks for your input everyone

well except deadstick who either ddint read for sperg raging out about incomplete information or simply lacks the reading comprehension of a witty 14 year old.

using the ac method i got another 12% clock out of it, still not even near unstable and im running cooler.

its still a tiny overclock (i dont really need or care to overclock this system) but im not forced to underclock anymore.

Yes, Dmitry is correct - its best to re-assemble the CPU heatsink paying close attention to the thermal compound procedure (described elsewhere on these forums) and then start over.

There is one other point that I shall share with you. My temps went sky high when I installed SETI and had it running. I immediately uninstalled SETI and everything was back to normal. SETI uses a lot of resources.

Umm...ok, dont see how you got sperg raging (whatever that is) out of my attempt to help, was simply pointing out that you problem with heat isnt truly fixed by this method

As to the personal attack about "reading comprehension of a witty 14 year old"
You'll just have to get over that yourself, I don't stoop that low!

Im not here to slap people around, I simply offered to help!
If you took it the wrong way I cant help that, and if that comes across as claiming a moral high ground I cant help that either. Good luck with your computer!
