Its you house not mine. More power to you. And if it did indeed burndown and they found the paperclip junk, your insuranse wouldnt cover you because of negligence.

You might as well stick a fork in the outlet and solder it to you system so you dont need a cord.

If you cant afford a $10- $20 powered external enclosure then you suck.

Just how much power do you actually think is flowing through the circuit that does nothing more than tell your computer to turn on? :heink:

I simply don't understand where this hostility is coming from.

1) Multiple Bay Sata Hard Drive Enclosures easily run into the hundreds of dollars not $10-20 as you have alleged. Unless you know of a supplier of cheap multi bay enclosures, if so please do share the knowledge.

2) The Paperclip is only one of the options. I'd prefer to wire it directly into the front power button.

3) Nothing that I've found in my searching has suggested that using the paper clip in conjunction with electrical tape (as in the example I linked) will result in some spontaneously combusting power supply. Heck car modders can utilize PC power supplies to power cold cathode and LED lights using the same method.

4) You haven't actually provided any proof of this fire hazard you claim will burn down my house. Thus far it's just been wild speculation on your end. Please do provide some form of compelling evidence.

Power to you Ragnorok, not sure why RoadRunner decided to go 'Smokey the PC Bear' on you... well, if Smokey was a complete douche that is.

I think the mod will work out perfectly. Post up some pics if you finish it :)

I have seen that one, I believe it's that same as the one my friend has, I'll keep it in mind as a fall back just in case.

It'll be quite some time before that happens, most likely. I'm not projecting to build a new computer till at least fall of this year maybe later.

I've got some non computer related projects in mind too. Once it warms up enough for me to have the door open of long periods of time I'll have to break out the airbrush I bought last year and start my practice again. If I get proficient I may try it out on some computer cases 😀 .

I have nine boxes (4 in home office, 3 for kiddies, 2 "spares" and an NAS). One of the best uses for a spare PC is that when one is broken, you have a "spare" to use and go on line to get stuff. Other uses include a print server, a game server (DMZ), backup location, guest computer.

roadrunner just hasn't gotten laid recently, is my thought. it's really funny how sure s/he seems that you'll burn down your house. s/he doesn't give any other thought to it at all than just "omg you idiot you'll burn down your house". meh, s/he just needs to get laid...
