When I check my possible Comcast Internet connections I have both an Ethernet connection and a Wi-Fi connection with the same name. I have a Honeywell security system and a smart phone app to act like the Honeywell console. When I reboot the desktop I need to activate the Wi-Fi every time. Should I just disconnect the Ethernet cable to the desktop, remember to keep Wi-Fi activated, or is there a better solution? We also an old desktop without Wi-Fi connected to a cable modem we own.

Solution
You have to activate the WiFi each time because the default is to use the cable and it only uses one at a time. If you would rather not have the cable, remove it. If you would rather have the cable, ignore the WiFi. Unless something wacky is going on, that should work.
