Hi guys, I am now in charge of a phone system that I barely know but need to learn! I am having trouble with the color scheme on my 66 block. I have 7 phone lines connected to it and three of them are currently down. It starts on the left side with colors:
1. white/orange
2. Orange
3. White/green
4. Green
5. White/blue
6. Blue
7. White/brown
8. Brown.

And then it runs another cat5 cable on the same side beginning with:
1. Orange
2. White/orange
3. Blue
4. White/Blue
5. Brown/White
6. Brown.

I have no idea why the person before me made this only 3 pairs and skipped Green and white/green.

Somehow the second set of wires mentioned above at Orange and White/orange is paired with a phone line Green/red and it's working fine with a bridge clip in between them. If I could attach a picture it may be easier to understand. I hope I'm making sense, but I cannot figure out why he did this and how Orange/Ow pairs with red/green phone line. I want to use all cat5 cables on this 66 block without messing any current connection up.

Any help would be so appreciated!

All I have to say is, fax line only uses the middle 2 pins 4&5 on a RJ45, pins 3&4 on a RJ11. The last guy was probably splitting the 4 pairs and using it for multiple lines.

in general, when it comes to analog phones, you need a pair for each line, colors don't matter. don't assume that the person who did the wiring followed some specific color scheme.
buy a butt set or make one from an old analog phone and do some googling on how to use it. for basic troubleshooting all you need is a butt set and a cell phone, use the butt set to call your cell to determine the number.

Thank you for response. I have that tool and I am getting dial tone and the number is responded back to me after dialing 958 on the lineman handset (butt set). ALL of the lines connected to this 66 block are for FAX lines. I should have mentioned that in the original post.
