using dye ink in a pigment catridge

hie guys i need help

this is the first time i am going to install ciss in my printer hp 6525 photosmart. It has 4 hp 685 cartridge(C,Y,M and k) but C,Y,M are dye based and black is pigment based.can i use dye based ink for black too??? if so should i must empty my black cartridge before filling dye based ink or fill over the pigmented ink???

the problem is the print heads are not removable so if any problem comes i must spend lot of money to repair it.

I recommend you do NOT change the ink type, for two reasons:

1. The chemistry involved in dye versus pigment ink systems is different. So it is possible that, if you change from pigment to dye ink, the remaining old pigment ink will become unstable and cause printing problems at least, and maybe even clogged ink jets.

2. In general, pigment inks are more opaque when printed and give slightly better print quality. Pigment inks for colours are not common because there are few (if any) that can work in ink jet formulations. But the black pigment inks are very good. Pigment ink, with its better opacity, is much more important for black both for clear text and for the density of dark colours that use some black for darkening. That is why most multi-ink colour printers use 3 dye-type inks for the Cyan, Magenta and Yellow, plus one pigment-type ink for Black. I have seen a dye-type Black ink used only in printers that have BOTH types of black - I have such a printer from Canon. They use the dye-type black for printing moderately dark coloured areas, and the pigment black for really dark colours and all text work.

I am from India and i have ordered this for color but for black i cant find particular one (pigmented) for HP.but there are some universal available and i have posted the links for both.

i read that HP printing method varies from Epson and if i use Epson ink then the head gets clogged. dye ink is available for different printers but pigmented ink is available only as universal.And in printerknowledge forum, they said there is nothing called universal ink,if its said universal dont ever buy it.(in hp 5525 photosmart printer thread which is similar to the one i have)

i searched eBay flipkart amazon and cant find pigmented ink for HP.looks like i don't have more choices in our country. so does the above one for black looks good??

I don't know for sure what differences there are between HP, Canon and Epson ink formulations. One thing I am sure of: black pigment inks are certainly different from color dye inks; hence, good or bad experience reports based on dye inks should NOT be used to guide decisions on black pigment inks. However, ONE of the important differences in ink jet printing systems concerns the match of chemistry between the ink and the paper surface. Since, when you print on a piece of paper in a HP printer, the SAME paper surface chemistry is common for all inks applied to it, there must be some similarity between dye and pigment ink formulations for HP printers.

Now, the black pigment ink you linked to by GoColor says it is "universal", but also limits that to Canon, HP and Epson. It does not claim to be for ALL printing systems. It is reasonable that several companies could use very similar printing chemistry systems. I know last night I printed using an HP DeskJet 952C 4-ink printer on Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy paper, and it worked just fine - good color, very fast drying, no smearing. So, I'm guessing it is a good bet that this black pigment ink CAN work on all three company's printers.

I could not find a clear specification about the types of ink used in your HP Photosmart 6525 unit. But if you are sure the 3 color are dye inks, and the black is pigment, I suggest you keep using those ink types. I tried looking around the flipkart.com website to see if they sell a kit of only the three colors in dye inks, so you would not have to buy and discard the black dye ink. I could not find that.

I have an HP 8600 Pro Plus which I had purchased in 2012. I bought a CISS kit with dye inks and have been using it with heavy printing since then. Only last week I had a print head alignment failure after the tank ran out of ink and it seems that head is damaged ( as per HP service) and I am getting a replacement ( around $100 / INR 6800 ).

I am now going to use pigment inks either directly refilling original HP cartridge or via the CISS after flushing the dye ink from CISS. www.inkproducts.com has posted an instruction on how to refill the original HP 950XL cartridge.

All in all, even after a damaged print head, I have saved a ton of money by using a CISS.
