Using FreeSync with a displayport monitor

I have a Gigabyte R9 290 and a Dell P2414H Monitor (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&cs=19&sku=320-9794)
I am currently using the displayport connection (1.2a) and was wondering if I could use FreeSync with it if I install the 15.3 beta drivers from AMD. I am sorry if this questions is stupid as I am not very well informed with FreeSync and am confused as to how it works. Any replies would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

your gpu supports FreeSync however you will also need a compatible monitor! only few exist right now however more will eventually emerge!
