Using HDMI with a PC on a LCD TV display problem

So i just got my new GPU today the HD7770 so i thought i would use HDMI on my LCD TV i have instead of a 1024x768 VGA monitor so i could use a higher resolution in games, but the picture with HDMI was awful i could barley see the text, i tried messing with the TV's settings i also tried all Resolutions and scaling options please help.

What's the tv native resolution?
Did you turn off the overscan on the tv?

The native res is 1920x1080 and yes

Can you run a VGA connection from card to TV to compare? Sometimes using HDMI forces settings that a VGA doesn't. Might help...

Well no, but you can use VGA to make sure the GPU and TV are fine and it could just be an HDMI-specific settings thing you need to dig deeper on.

Hello, first post.
I just hooked up my Samsung TV to my PC using HDMI and I happened to stumble on some information using Google since the manual was rubbish.
I also have a HD7770.

I hope you have a Samsung TV as well and have the same options as mine.


I had issues with blurry text as well.
First off all the screen was a bit cropped. Turns out all TV's do this and switching to fit screen instead of 16:9 mode fixed this.
This made the text slightly less fuzzy because it doesn't zoom in the picture.

The second step was checking if my ATI driver was not using any overscan. it was not.

I almost decided this was as good as it was going to get until I opened one more website to see how to enhance the image.
Jackpot.

I have 2 HDMI ports on the side of the TV AND a third one at the back. It's labelled HDMI DVI.
I already had it hooked up to the third one.
But I read you could rename this channel/connection (it's called HDMI3 something in my TV menu) to PC.
BAM. Screen went dark and when it came back all my settings were gone BUT the text was much clearer.

Turns out changing the name to PC (you can't type this manually but have to select the name from a list) changed all kind of settings you can't do manually. (believe my I tried all settings)

If you have A Samsung TV maybe you can do this as well. Maybe another brand has a similar setting/hidden feature.

My text is now almost as sharp/clear as on my monitor when I sit at 0.5 meter. (any closer and it quickly goes to hell but who sits 20 cm from their TV) And this is a cheap €500 (40 inch) TV.

I'm having the same problem though my TV is a Logik L22FE12. It has two HDMI ports (labelled HDMI1 and HDMI2) and there's nowhere in the settings I can find to rename them to "PC"... any ideas?

Not really.

It speaks off "PC mode" on page 51 and 52 but that might be some bad translation and they are just referring to hooking up your PC using VGA.

Speaking of VGA you might want to try that to rule out HDMI settings like someone else suggested in this thread. It also should/might rule out resolution options and upscaling nonsense.

The problem is either the TV is upscaling your picture (aka messing with the resolution of your graphics card) and/or applying a filter of some kind.
Also try fiddling with the settings/filters, disabling everything you can. We don't want ANY filters or other crap on.
Unfortunately on some TV's you can not disable all filters..

I'm going to assume you have your graphics card set at 1920x1080 resolution at 50 hz.
