Question Using high quality Bluray media for long-term backup?!

Hi all,

I currently have a Synology 4-bay drive for backup duties, it backs up 3 devices and holds all of my media.

Now, as backup to a backup, I was thinking of using some my blu-ray burner to backup at least the most important data (docs, pics, etc) then keep those at my parents house (not to be at the same location).

I have some high quality media purchased from Japan a few years ago, they're Gold standard or something (Panasonic made in Japan), but I have no idea how long those could keep data reliably?! Is that better or worse than an external HDD held there instead? For external HDD, I have to purchase one, while I do have a few of these bluray devices.

I have 7TB of data, but only about 400MB is critical.

Straightforward:

Make multiple backups including the Blu-ray backups.

Verify that all of the backups are recoverable and readable.

Put however many backups you feel are necessary in places that you believe to be safe, secure, and readily acccessible.

Storage media, online, NAS, etc..

So you can somehow or one way or another get your data back.....

If only the Apocalypse can destroy all of your backup copies then all should be well.

Otherwise any data recovery is likely to be moot,
